hello all.

I'm coming to Chicago Oct. 6. I'm arriving at the Union Station at 08.20 and will be there until 17.00 that day until my next train leaves.

Any suggestions of where I could go, what I could do? I'm going to have a mountain backpack on me, so that might limit my flexibility...

thanks much and peace!

What are you interested in seeing? Museums and such or architechture? You'll be in walking distance from the Museum Campus (ie Shedd Aquarium, Field Museum and Adler Planetarium), but it'll be a little bit of a trek. If you can find an El station you can get to anywhere you'd like to go for a day within the city. I can walk the length of the city in a day from Navy Pier all the way to Union Station, but I'm not carrying a heavy backpack so time could be longer for you depending on whether you have luggage to tote along or not. I know it's not a lot of help but I'm trying. : )

Union Station is west of the loop and close to Chicago but like I said depending on what you're toting along (ie single backpack, luggage etc) it can make things a bit more difficult. Other museums relatively near there? Off the top of my head the Spertus Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Photography. I've never been to the first myself but was in the second a few weeks ago. Also Millenium Park is near there too...

You should have time to see at least some of the city in the amount of time you have available but again that depends on how long and how heavy your backpack will be. Hope this helps some. Good luck and take care!
